What counts as a 'legible copy' of a title in Alabama?
Answer: A 'legible copy' is a clean, readable photocopy or digital printout of both the front and back of your out-of-state title. This copy must be provided to you by your lienholder (your lender).
Why "Front and Back" is So Important
When you have a car loan, your lender holds the original title. For registration, the Madison County License Department needs to see all the information on that original document. This includes the vehicle's details, your name, and the lienholder's information.
A blurry, dark, or incomplete copy (like missing the back) will be rejected, forcing another trip. We recommend contacting your lender and specifically asking for a "title copy for registration in a new state."
