Will I need an ice scraper for my car in the mornings?

Answer: Yes, absolutely. An ice scraper is a non-negotiable tool for a Madison winter. You will use it far more often for thick frost than for actual ice or snow.

Frost vs. Ice: The Real Reason You Need a Scraper

Because of the high humidity in the region, heavy frost frequently forms on car windshields overnight, even when it hasn't rained. Mornings where the temperature is 35°F or below will almost always require you to scrape your windows before you can drive safely.

This is a common part of the morning routine from December through February. A can of de-icer can also be helpful.
